PRESS RELEASE
ISSUED 20 MARCH 2020
Garden Waste Service Suspended
The Council has suspended its garden waste collection service for at least two weeks.
There will be no garden waste (brown lidded bin) collections from Monday 23 March for at least two weeks as a result of severe staff shortages resulting from the coronavirus pandemic.
Refuse (black bin) and recycling (blue lidded bin) collections will continue as normal and are unaffected by this change.
Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council Director for Environmental Planning, Matt Bowers said: “These are unprecedented circumstances that have forced us to make this difficult decision in order to divert our resources to the more critical refuse and recycling collection service. We appreciate the inconvenience this will create for our residents and hope they understand these are exceptional circumstances which are beyond the council’s control. We will keep this under continual review with the aim of restoring the service as soon as possible.
“We apologise for this inconvenience. In the meantime, we would encourage customers to manage their garden waste at home such as by home composting if they can.”
While no refunds can be provided, the council is exploring a number of other options and customers will be advised in due course. Customers are asked to bear with us at this difficult time.

PRESS RELEASE
ISSUED 19 MARCH 2020
Service Changes due to Coronavirus
The Council has suspended its bulky waste collection service and is making a range of changes to a number of other key public streetscene services until further notice.
The service changes are being made as a result of severe staff shortages resulting from the coronavirus pandemic.
Bulky Collections – The council will not be taking any new bookings for bulky collections until further notice. The council hopes to honour existing bookings for 26 March but this may change depending on staff availability on the day. Any affected customers will be contacted. Residents can opt to wait for the service to resume or alternatively customers may wish to take items to the local tip. Check you can dispose of the items and the tip opening times at the site before you visit: www.leicestershire.gov.uk/waste-and-recycling/
It is strongly recommended that anyone choosing to use a private waste collector checks the collector is registered to collect waste and asks for a waste transfer note in order to see where the waste is being taken to for disposal. See the register of waste carriers, brokers and dealers at www.environment.data.gov.uk
Special waste collections – have been suspended with immediate effect until further notice. All pre-booked collections will go ahead.
Clinical waste collections (sharps) – will change to fortnightly collections from April 1. Affected customers will be advised about alternative collection dates.
Litter bins – from Monday (23 March) some litter bins will be out of service and covered over. While every effort will be made to keep litter bins in use in higher footfall areas, residents are asked to be responsible with their litter and take it home with them at this challenging time.
Hazardous waste – the team will still be able to clear away any reported hazardous waste such as needles, glass and dog mess but members of the public are advised this will take longer than usual according to staff availability.
Please find a warning from the Leicestershire Police about a Courier Fraud Scam being carried out in the area.
