ANNUAL COUNTRYSIDE CLEAN UP

The Countryside Alliance’s annual Countryside Clean-up initiative is back! Each year this event sees thousands of people fighting back against the rubbish blighting our countryside. This year our Countryside Clean-up will take place between Saturday 16 March and Monday 1 April.

The Countryside Alliance is encouraging everyone who can to devote a couple of hours helping to make a difference in a rural area by organising or joining a local clean-up operation.

Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council Launches New Bin Service for Home Clear-Outs

Council Launches New Bin Service for Home Clear-Outs

RESIDENTS who are having a home or garage clear out can now make use of the council’s new ‘Big Bin’ service.

The Big Bin Clear Out collection service is aimed at those who are throwing out numerous items which are too big to fit in a standard waste bin, but not enough to fill a skip.

In using the service, residents can enjoy the convenience of not having to put waste items in their car, arrange transport or even organise a private collection service.

As part of the service, a large, four-wheeled bin will be delivered to a property. It will then be collected six days later for a fixed fee. Bins can be delivered five days a week, across the whole of the borough.

Residents can choose from a 660-litre refuse bin, which is the equivalent of almost three standard-sized black bins, or a 1100-litre refuse bin – the equivalent of 4.5 standard-sized black bins depending on how much waste they are clearing out.

The cost will be:

• One 1100 litre bin will cost £60 for seven days hire, or £100 for two 1100 litre bins.
• One 660 litre bin will cost £50 for seven days hire, or £80 for two 660 litre bins.
• Residents have the option of hiring the bin(s) for an additional week at the cost of £20.

Two recycling bins, ten textile bags and a bag for small electrical items can also be included for free.

Cllr Lynda Hodgkins, Executive Member for Streetscene Services said: “We are delighted to be launching this new service to help our residents who are having a clear-out, or who are perhaps moving home, emptying a garage or shed.

“This service is delivered to and collected from your door, making it an easy and convenient way to get rid of anything you no longer need. It is particularly helpful for those who don’t have enough rubbish to fill a skip, or for those who don’t have a car to make a journey to the recycling centre.

“You can also add recycling bins to your order free of charge, making it easy to recycle at the same time. We are expecting high demand for this service, so please book in soon if you are interested.”

Council Leader Cllr Stuart Bray said: “This is a great service which I am sure will prove invaluable to residents. We all have occasions when a bigger bin would prove to be very handy. It will save trips to the waste and recycling centre plus filling the car and the bonus of being able to separate items at home for recycling.

“A service that is both time-saving and convenient. I hope that it will also help put a stop to unlicensed waste collectors and fly-tipping in general.”

There are some restrictions on what can be placed into the bins: construction waste, business waste, garden waste or large volumes of wood cannot be collected.
