FREE TRANSPORT FOR COVID FLU VACCINATIONS

A free transport offer to/from a flu/COVID vaccination provider is available to all eligible residents of Leicestershire, (not city or Rutland).  The idea is to help vulnerable people living in rural villages access their vaccination offer conveniently.

All they have to do is call the provider – 01530 512456 –  the number is operational Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm – and the provider will proactively check the person’s eligibility, book them into a clinic and will arrange to pick them up from their home, transport them to the clinic / wait for them / run them home.  All at no cost to the individual.

Upcoming essential maintenance work on the M42 southbound between junction 11 and junction 10.  As part of the work, our primary activities will be resurfacing the road and renewing the road markings. We’ll also be using the closure to carry additional maintenance activities to provide a clearer and safer carriageway for road users.

We’ll be carrying out our work overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on 25 August 2023 to 28 August 2023, including weekend work.

To carry out our work safely, there will be a total closure of the M42 southbound between junction 11 and junction10.  There will also be a lane 2 closure on the M42 northbound carriageway between junction 10 and junction 11. During this closure, a signed diversion route will be in place as below:

Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained.

We’ll make every effort to ensure the impact on the local community and travelling public is kept to a minimum. We always aim to work to the programme, however unforeseen circumstances or adverse weather conditions may mean changes.

CHANGES TO THE LOCAL RISK FLOOD MANAGEMENT STRATEGY

Residents are invited to complete an online survey about proposed changes to the 2015 Local Flood Risk Management Strategy as well as being able to offer comments about any incidents of flooding, affecting personal property or more widely in Leicestershire.

Consultation on the proposed changes is open till Sun 13 August 2023.

We hope that you will be able to take part.

STREET LIGHT CONSULTATION

Leicestershire County Council continues to face significant financial challenges with the authority’s budget gap set to rise to nearly £90m by 2026. The council is also committed to reducing the impact of climate change.

Through its Medium-Term Financial Strategy, the council has identified potential savings of approximately £500,000 with a street lighting proposal, which also reduces energy consumption by 1.508m kWh and carbon emissions by 315 tonnes a year.

Advances in LED lighting – and their management systems – mean the council has an opportunity to tweak lighting levels during less-busy periods. Currently, all streetlights are lit to various levels across the county, some of which gradually dim through the night.

Following approval at the Cabinet on 23 June 2023, the council is now launching a consultation to seek views on dimming most streetlights in the county to levels of 30 percent from 8pm (down from 50%), depending on the location, and to understand where we should have exceptions to this approach.

The majority of the residential street lighting provision dims to 30% at 10pm and visiting a residential street after 10pm will help give residents an understanding of what this lower lighting level looks like.

To have your say, visit the consultation page. The consultation runs until Thursday 3 August.
