Today Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council launched their public engagement on their interim proposal for the reorganisation of local government in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

 

Their dedicated website – www.northcitysouth.co.uk – details the interim proposal and what HBBC believe will be the best structure for local government in the area when reorganisation happens in the coming years.

 

Anyone visiting the site will be asked to give their views on our proposal by 20 July, and we’re hoping for a good response from the public.

This long awaited scheme includes new pedestrian crossings, a clockwise one-way road system, junction improvements, widened footways and cycle parking.

The Market Bosworth Parish Council and Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council scheme will take 10 weeks, with work in the historic town carried out on their behalf by Leicestershire County Council.

Upgrades will include:

• Improved priority system at the junction of Rectory Lane and Sutton Lane
• Two-hour restricted parking bays in Market Place
• New one-way clockwise gyratory system on Market Place and Main Street
• New 20mph speed limit within the town centre and approach roads
• Road resurfacing

When completed, residents and businesses are expected to benefit from reduced speeds and improved road safety, better traffic flow, and limited waiting parking bays.

New pedestrian crossings, widened footway areas and cycle parking will also feature, improving active travel provision to the town.

To ensure safety and efficiency, the improvements work will be carried out in phases, using a combination of temporary road closures and changes to traffic direction.

Access to homes and premises will be maintained as much as possible. There may be short periods of restriction, which will be carefully managed and kept to a minimum.

Leicestershire County Council have advised that they are currently reviewing, re-designing, and re-tendering bus services around the county.  They can also confirm that the above bus service is not being cancelled without any alternative provision, it will be replaced. Final details of proposed changes are still being worked up, and will be rolled out very shortly. However,  they can hopefully provide reassurance in advising that it will not result in any loss of provision.

Free parking on Easter Saturday in selected Hinckley car parks 

 

Shopping in Hinckley will be given a boost with free car parking in selected town centre car parks on Easter Saturday (19 April).

 

Shoppers will be able to park for free from 9am in Trinity Vicarage, Lower Bond Street and Holliers Walk car parks.

 

Shoppers are reminded that parking is free in all council run car parks on Bank Holidays and Sundays throughout the year which includes Good Friday (18 April) and Easter Monday (21 April).

 

Lisa Rees, Clean Neighbourhoods and Car Parks Manager at the Borough Council, said: “I’m pleased that we’re bringing back our free town centre parking offer for Easter.

 

“Four consecutive days of free parking gives you an excellent opportunity to go into town and support plenty of great businesses while doing your shopping.”
